R.I.S.E. Academy is a Not for Private virtual high school that focuses on service learning, connecting youth to their community and finding ways to create solutions to problems related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. On this podcast the youth in the program interview amazing people who are doing things to create change.

In this episode Owen speaks with Director, Cultural Diversity and Inclusion for the OHL Rico Phillips. We learn about what this position means, stories from referring, his role as a fire fighter as well as the Flint Inner City Youth Hockey Program. Rico shares his amazing experience of being nominated and winning the 2019 Willie O’Ree community hero award. You will hear Rico’s passion for the work that he does in this entire episode. Owen’s biggest take away, It is important to be courageous and speak out when there is a problem.
