Play With Purpose

By Margaret and Wallace McCain Family Foundation

In this series of conversations, we speak with the researchers, educators and economists who have contributed their unique and important perspectives to Early Years Study 4. Each conversation is interesting and compelling on its own but, when combined, the call to action is loud and clear: high quality, early childhood education for ALL.

Janette Pelletier, Ph. D., is Professor of Applied Psychology and Human Development at the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study. Janette’s research interests are in the area of early child development and education.

Angela Pyle is an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Psychology and Human Development, OISE/UT.

Both come to our conversation of Chapter 2 of Early Years Study 4 with insight, expertise and passion. In this episode, we discuss the idea that play is, in fact, the work of the child.

An important part of the chapter, and the discussion, is the Continuum of Play-Based Learning developed by Angela Pyle and Erica Danniels.

An important and powerful conversation.
