Episode Seven: Citizenship Education with Nyein Mya

Tawnshi folks!
Article: James A. Banks (2008) Diversity, Group Identity, and Citizenship Education in a Global Age.

Nyein and Madelaine discuss the multi-layered discussion of what citizenship is, especially within a Canadian educational context. They explore Banks’ (2008) notion of “transformative citizenship” and how educators can make the active decision to think about the content they share and how it can incorporate student perspectives and lived experiences in appropriate ways. Further, they discuss a means of reflection of the position teachers hold within their educational spaces and whose perspectives they are sharing when they teach lessons from curriculum documents.

Maarsii and Miigwetch @nyeinnya for joining me! It is always so wonderful to hear your perspectives!
