Let’s “Do The Math”: A New Series on voicEd Radio
Right from the beginning, one of the driving “why’s” of voicEd Radio has been to deepen the conversations we have about education in Canada–and beyond. Arguably, the area that is crying out for deepening is the way we talk about education is mathematics. Often considered a proxy for individual and entire school success, math scores are one of the most hotly debated topics on the education landscape today. Likely not a new phenomenon, but certainly one that we need to begin addressing.
That’s the inspiration behind one of the newest offerings in the voicEd Radio fall line-up. Do The Math is a series of conversations with some of the country’s most passionate and energetic voices in the area of mathematics education. They are voices that, despite the fact that they haven’t always agreed with each other, have agreed to help us slow the conversation down, get at some of the knotty roots of our current thinking and help to move the narrative around mathematics education in a new direction.
It’s a tall order, to be sure but it is one that has been undertaken with what we hope is right combination of curiosity, optimism and expertise. These are not 280 character conversations, but are intended to provide the time and space to dig a bit deeper, listen a bit more carefully and wonder a little more vibrantly about what mathematics education can and should look like in our current age.
So join us live on Tuesday evenings at 8 PM EDT as Clive Packer, Matthew Oldridge, Mike Arnold and Sunil Singh gather to Do The Math. If you have comments, feedback or would like to be a guest on the show, drop us a line or leave a message in the comment section below. We’ll be sure to respond promptly.
Join us on the journey as we strive to change the way we talk about math education!
